The Sun Hydraulics DMDATBN297 (DMDATBN297) is a high-performance, solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for robust and precise hydraulic control. This direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve is engineered to operate without minimum hydraulic pressure, enhancing its versatility in various applications. The valve features a fatigue-rated solenoid tube assembly capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), making it suitable for demanding environments. With a switching frequency of up to 15000 cycles per hour and a typical response time of 50 ms, the DMDATBN297 ensures rapid and reliable operation. It has a maximum flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and can manage maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The valve's design includes closed transitions between spool positions B and R, optimizing performance by providing faster and more consistent response times ideal for pilot control applications where capacity is less critical. This model incorporates Sun's floating style construction which reduces the risk of internal parts binding due to installation torque or machining variations in the cavity/cartridge. The wet armature design allows the working fluid to surround the armature, which is crucial when considering the thermal effects during prolonged energization of the coil. However, it requires careful selection of fluids as some may degrade under heat, affecting performance. For maintenance or manual override scenarios, this valve features a detent mechanism designed for temporary actuation with an expected mechanical life of approximately 7,000 cycles. It also supports interchangeable coils with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products for flexible installation options. The DMDATBN297 is equipped with EPDM seals suitable for use with phosphate ester fluids but should avoid exposure to petroleum-based fluids which could damage these seals. Its robust construction and versatile design make it an essential component in advanced hydraulic systems requiring precise control and high reliability.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
