The Sun Hydraulics DMDATBN528 (DMDATBN528) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve, designed for direct-acting and balanced spool directional control. This valve features a robust design with a fatigue rating for 5000 psi (350 bar) service, making it suitable for demanding hydraulic applications. The DMDATBN528 is engineered with closed transitions between Spools B and R, enhancing performance by ensuring faster and more consistent response times, particularly beneficial in pilot control applications where capacity is less critical. This model boasts a direct actuation system that operates without needing a minimum hydraulic pressure, adding to its versatility in various system configurations. The manual override options available with the D or L control are designed for temporary actuation with a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles. Additionally, the valve is equipped with EPDM seals intended specifically for systems using phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals must not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as they can cause damage. The wet armature design of the DMDATBN528 allows the working fluid to surround the armature which could be pertinent if the coil remains energized over extended periods. This feature requires consideration regarding fluid selection to prevent breakdown and varnish formation that could impair cartridge functionality. Furthermore, its coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted in either direction to accommodate different installation requirements. With a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a flow capacity of up to 12 gpm (45 L/min), this valve is an excellent choice for various hydraulic systems requiring reliable directional control and rapid response times. The floating style construction minimizes internal parts binding due to installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations, ensuring consistent performance and longevity.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
