The Sun Hydraulics DMDATPV812N (DMDATPV812N) is a solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve that features a direct-acting, balanced spool directional mechanism. This valve is uniquely designed for high-performance applications with its fatigue-rated solenoid tube assembly capable of handling up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It operates efficiently without requiring a minimum hydraulic pressure, making it extremely versatile in various operational settings. This model benefits from closed transitions between Spools B and R, optimizing performance by providing faster and more consistent response times particularly useful in pilot control applications where capacity is less critical. The valve also includes manual override options with the D or L control featuring a detent mechanism designed for temporary actuation, supporting around 7,000 mechanical life cycles. Equipped to handle phosphate ester fluids with EPDM seals, the DMDATPV812N should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids which can deteriorate the seals. Its wet armature design allows the working fluid to surround the armature, which is beneficial but requires consideration regarding fluid type as prolonged exposure to heat can lead to breakdown and varnish formation. Additional features include interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and a floating style construction that minimizes internal part binding due to installation variances. The valve supports up to 12 gpm (45 L/min) capacity and has swift response times typically around 50 ms. Leakage specifications are impressively low at maximum pressure settings, and it supports a high switching frequency up to 15,000 cycles/hr. Installation requires specific torque settings and this compact unit weighs only about 0.60 lb (0.30 kg), facilitating ease of handling and integration into various systems.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
