The Sun Hydraulics DMDAXAV828 (DMDAXAV828) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for direct-acting, balanced spool directional control in hydraulic systems. With a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a flow capacity of up to 12 gpm (45 L/min), this valve is engineered to handle demanding applications. The DMDAXAV828 features a unique closed transition between spool positions B and R, enhancing performance by providing faster and more consistent response times, especially useful in pilot control applications where capacity is less critical. This valve operates without requiring a minimum hydraulic pressure, making it versatile for various system conditions. It includes options for manual override controls (D, L, T types), which are primarily intended for temporary actuation with a mechanical life expectancy of around 7,000 cycles. The DMDAXAV828 utilizes EPDM seals suitable for phosphate ester fluids but should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as they can damage the seals. The design incorporates a wet armature setup where the working fluid surrounds the armature; this is vital in managing heat during prolonged coil energization but requires consideration of fluid type due to potential breakdown and varnish formation. Interchangeability with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products offers flexibility in system design, allowing coils to be mounted in either direction on the tube. Additionally, the valve benefits from Sun\u2019s floating style construction which minimizes internal part binding caused by excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. Key specifications include a typical response time of 50 ms and maximum valve leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) being limited to 5 in\u00b3/min at 3000 psi (80 cc/min at 210 bar). The manual override requires an actuation force of about 5 lbs at 1000 psi per port. This robust and reliable valve solution meets stringent requirements while providing exceptional operational flexibility and durability.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
