The Sun Hydraulics DMDAXBN223 (DMDAXBN223) is a solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for high-performance hydraulic systems. This direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve is optimized for use in applications requiring precise control, such as in pilot controls where capacity is less critical but response time and consistency are paramount. The valve features closed transitions between spool positions B and R, enhancing performance by ensuring faster and more consistent responses. Constructed to handle pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), the DMDAXBN223 boasts a robust design with a fatigue-rated solenoid tube assembly suitable for demanding operations. It operates without needing a minimum hydraulic pressure, making it versatile across various hydraulic circuits. The manual override option available with the D or L control models is designed primarily for temporary actuation, supported by a detent mechanism that sustains approximately 7,000 cycles. For environments using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges equipped with EPDM seals are recommended; however, these seals must not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids which can cause damage. The wet armature design of the valve means that the working fluid surrounds the armature\u2014this aspect should be considered as prolonged energization can lead to fluid degradation in certain conditions. Additional features include interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and a floating style construction that minimizes internal part binding due to installation variances. With specifications like a flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min), rapid response times typical at 50 ms, and maximum leakage well-controlled at 5 in\u00b3/min at 3000 psi (80 cc/min at 210 bar), this valve is engineered for efficiency and reliability in specialized hydraulic applications.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
