The Sun Hydraulics DRBALAN (DRBALAN) is a normally open, direct-acting, 2-way directional cartridge valve designed for moderate flow circuits. It can function independently or in conjunction with larger pilot-operated directional or logic cartridges. The valve operates by shifting when the pressure differential between port 1 and port 3 surpasses a predetermined setting, with pressure at port 3 being directly additive to this setting. Due to this characteristic, port 3 may not be suitable as a work port in certain circuit configurations; the 4-port version of the valve might be considered in such cases. Featuring low internal leakage and minimal pilot flow consumption due to its direct-acting design, this valve is interchangeable with pilot-operated versions as they share cavity compatibility and flow paths. The DRBALAN model is capable of modulating between two positions but is not bistable. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce the risk of internal part binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations. This cartridge fits into a T-11A cavity and is part of series 1, with a capacity of handling up to 7 gpm (28 L/min). Factory pressure settings are established at a flow rate of 4 gpm (15 L/min), while it can withstand a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Maximum valve leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is limited to 2 in/min (30 cc/min). The adjustment screw allows for increased settings through approximately five clockwise turns. Its hex size measures at 7/8 inches (22.2 mm), requiring an installation torque between 30 - 35 lbf ft (41 - 47 Nm), while the locknut requires a torque between 80 - 90 lbf in (9 -10 Nm). The model weighs approximately .60 lb (.30 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for cartridge sealing needs.

Normally open, direct-acting, 2-way directional cartridges are switching devices typically used in moderate flow circuits. They can be used by themselves or to actuate larger pilot-operated directional cartridges or logic cartridges. The valve shifts when the pressure differential between port 1 and port 3 exceeds the setting.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the setting of the valve. Because of this, port 3 may not be useable as a work port in your circuit. If this is a consideration, the 4 port version of this valve may be a solution.
- Because of their direct-acting design, these cartridges feature low internal leakage and low pilot flow consumption.
- Direct-acting and pilot-operated versions of these valves are interchangeable. They fit the same cavities and have the same flow paths.
- This valve is not bistable; it is capable of modulating between the two positions shown.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
