The Sun Hydraulics DRBNCWN (DRBNCWN) is a normally closed, direct-acting, 2-way directional cartridge valve designed for moderate flow circuits. This versatile component can function independently or be used to actuate larger pilot-operated or logic cartridges. It operates by shifting when the pressure differential between port 1 and port 4 surpasses a predetermined setting. Port 3 can serve as a work port, and the flow path between ports 2 and 3 is bidirectional, offering flexibility in circuit design. Due to its direct-acting design, this cartridge valve boasts low internal leakage and minimal pilot flow consumption. The direct-acting and pilot-operated versions are interchangeable, fitting the same cavities with identical flow paths. The valve features Sun's floating style construction to minimize potential binding of internal components due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in the cavity/cartridge. It is capable of modulating between two positions but is not bistable. The maximum operating pressure for this model is rated at 5000 psi (350 bar), with a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). Factory pressure settings are established at 4 gpm (15 L/min). The maximum allowable pressure at port 3 should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar) due to fatigue strength limits. Installation requires a T-21A cavity with a valve hex size of 7/8 inch (22.2 mm) and installation torque between 30 - 35 lbf ft (41 - 47 Nm). Adjustments can be made by turning the adjustment screw clockwise up to five turns to increase the setting, using an internal hex size of 5/32 inch (4 mm). The locknut requires a hex size of 9/16 inch (15 mm) with a torque specification of 80 - 90 lbf in (9 -10 Nm). This model weighs approximately .55 lb (.25 kg) and includes a Viton seal kit for maintenance purposes.

Normally closed, direct-acting, 2-way directional cartridges are switching devices typically used in moderate flow circuits. They can be used by themselves or to actuate larger pilot-operated directional cartridges or logic cartridges. The valve shifts when the pressure differential between port 1 and port 4 exceeds the setting.
- Port 3 can be used as a work port.
- The flow path between port 2 and port 3 is bidirectional.
- Because of their direct-acting design, these cartridges feature low internal leakage and low pilot flow consumption.
- Direct-acting and pilot-operated versions of these valves are interchangeable. They fit the same cavities and have the same flow paths.
- Pressure at port 4 is directly additive to the setting of the valve.
- This valve is not bistable; it is capable of modulating between the two positions shown.
- Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar). This is due to fatigue strength limits not hydraulic operating limits.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
