The Sun Hydraulics DRBOXFN (DRBOXFN) is a direct-acting, 3-way directional cartridge valve designed for moderate flow circuits. This versatile component can be utilized independently or to actuate larger pilot-operated directional or logic cartridges. Its operational mechanism allows the valve to shift when the pressure differential between port 1 and port 4 surpasses a predetermined setting. The design features bidirectional flow paths between ports 2 and 3, as well as ports 1 and 2, making it adaptable for various hydraulic applications. Port 3 can function as a work port, although its maximum pressure should not exceed 3000 psi due to fatigue strength limits. The valve's construction incorporates Sun's floating style to minimize internal binding risks caused by excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this cartridge offers low internal leakage and pilot flow consumption due to its direct-acting design. It is interchangeable with pilot-operated versions, sharing the same cavities and flow paths. The valve's hex size is 7/8 inch (22.2 mm), with an installation torque requirement of 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm). It weighs approximately .55 lb (0.25 kg) and utilizes Viton seals, available in seal kit number 990021006 for maintenance needs.

Direct-acting, 3-way directional cartridges (1 blocked, 2 to 3 open) are switching devices typically used in moderate flow circuits. They can be used by themselves or to actuate larger pilot-operated directional cartridges or logic cartridges. The valve shifts when the pressure differential between port 1 and port 4 exceeds the setting.

  • Port 3 can be used as a work port.
  • The flow path between port 2 and port 3 is bidirectional.
  • Because of their direct-acting design, these cartridges feature low internal leakage and low pilot flow consumption.
  • Direct-acting and pilot-operated versions of these valves are interchangeable. They fit the same cavities and have the same flow paths.
  • Pressure at port 4 is directly additive to the setting of the valve.
  • This valve is not bistable; it is capable of modulating between the two positions shown.
  • The flow path between port 1 and port 2 is bidirectional.
  • Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar). This is due to fatigue strength limits not hydraulic operating limits.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
