The Sun Hydraulics DSCBXFN (DSCBXFN) is a direct-acting, 3-way directional cartridge valve designed for moderate flow circuits. This component is engineered to function as a switching device, either independently or in conjunction with larger pilot-operated directional or logic cartridges. The valve operates by shifting when the pressure differential between port 1 and port 3 surpasses its set threshold. A notable feature of this valve is that pressure at port 3 directly adds to the valve's setting; therefore, port 3 may not be suitable as a work port in certain circuit configurations. For such scenarios, opting for the 4-port version might be more appropriate. The DSCBXFN model benefits from a direct-acting design, which ensures low internal leakage and minimal pilot flow consumption. It is important to note that this valve is not bistable but can modulate between two positions as shown. The maximum allowable pressure at port 3 should be capped at 3000 psi (210 bar) due to fatigue strength limitations rather than hydraulic operational constraints. Additionally, the valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction, reducing the risk of internal part binding caused by excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. In terms of specifications, this cartridge fits into a T-11A cavity and belongs to Series 1 with a capacity of up to 10 gpm (40 L/min). The hex size for the valve is 7/8 inch (22.2 mm), and it requires an installation torque between 30 and 35 lbf-ft (41 to 47 Nm). For maintenance, Viton seal kits are available under part number 990011006.

Direct-acting, 3-way directional cartridges (1 blocked, 2 to 3 open) are switching devices typically used in moderate flow circuits. They can be used by themselves or to actuate larger pilot-operated directional cartridges or logic cartridges. The valve shifts when the pressure differential between port 1 and port 3 exceeds the setting.

  • Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the setting of the valve. Because of this, port 3 may not be useable as a work port in your circuit. If this is a consideration, the 4 port version of this valve may be a solution.
  • Because of their direct-acting design, these cartridges feature low internal leakage and low pilot flow consumption.
  • This valve is not bistable; it is capable of modulating between the two positions shown.
  • Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar). This is due to fatigue strength limits not hydraulic operating limits.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
