The Sun Hydraulics FPCCMDN4A12A (FPCCMDN4A12A) is a normally closed, electroproportional throttle valve designed to provide precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve is spring-biased closed and opens proportionally to the command current applied, with the opening force balanced by the spring and flow forces. It features a high degree of self-compensation in one direction and can offer proportional flow control in the opposite direction with an external compensator. Notably, it allows full reverse flow without a compensator under all conditions. Available configurations include normally open or closed setups with three capacity ranges, and it operates at pressures up to 5000 psi while maintaining low leakage levels when closed. The valve's solenoid coils are interchangeable with other solenoid-operated valves from Sun Hydraulics, allowing for flexible installation. Manual override options are available, including a momentary-twist override that shifts the valve by twisting 90 degrees clockwise. For optimal performance, it's recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. This cartridge uses Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. It fits into cavity T-13A and has a capacity of 10 gpm (40 L/min). The valve's maximum leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is 6 in\u00b3/min at 3000 psi (100 cc/min at 210 bar). The manual override requires a force of 5 lbs per 1000 psi (33 N/100 bar), with an override stroke of .10 inches (2.5 mm). The solenoid tube diameter is .75 inches (19 mm), and the valve hex size is .78 inches (22.2 mm). Installation torque ranges from 30-35 lbf-ft (41-47 Nm), and the model weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg). For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges with EPDM seals are available; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids will damage these seals.

This valve is a normally-closed, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased closed. Energizing the coil generates an opening force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with 100% command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Cartridges with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
