The Sun Hydraulics FPCCTBN72499 (FPCCTBN72499) is a normally closed, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve is spring-biased to remain closed and opens proportionally to the command current applied, balancing the forces from the spring and fluid flow. It features significant self-compensation in one direction and allows for proportional flow control in reverse with an external compensator. The valve can handle pressures up to 5000 psi and maintains low leakage when closed. It is available in normally open or closed configurations with three capacity ranges, ensuring versatility for various applications. The FPCCTBN72499 model incorporates interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun solenoid-operated valves, allowing flexible installation. For optimal performance, it requires an amplifier with adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz and current sensing capabilities. Manual override options include configurations without manual control or those with temporary actuation mechanisms, such as a momentary-twist option that shifts the valve by twisting the override clockwise 90 degrees. This cartridge utilizes Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. It fits into a T-13A cavity and supports a maximum flow capacity of 10 gpm (40 L/min). The valve's design ensures minimal leakage at high pressures and includes options for EPDM seals suitable for systems using phosphate ester fluids while being incompatible with petroleum-based substances. Additional specifications include a manual override force requirement of 5 lbs/1000 psi at Port 1, a stroke length of .10 inches (2.5 mm), solenoid tube diameter of .75 inches (19 mm), valve hex size of .78 inches (22.2 mm), installation torque between 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm), and a model weight of 1.10 lbs (0.50 kg). Seal kits are available under part numbers Viton: 990413006 for cartridges and Viton: 990770006 for coils.

This valve is a normally-closed, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased closed. Energizing the coil generates an opening force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with 100% command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Cartridges with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
