The Sun Hydraulics FPCHDAN712N (FPCHDAN712N) is a normally open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve operates by energizing the coil to generate a closing force on the spool, which is proportional to the command current. This force is countered by spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice whose size adjusts according to the current. The valve is self-compensating in one direction and can provide proportional flow control in the opposite direction with an external compensator. It allows full reverse flow without command under certain conditions. The FPCHDAN712N is available in both normally open and closed configurations and supports pressures up to 5000 psi. It features low leakage levels when closed and interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun solenoid-operated valves. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. The valve includes various manual override options, such as a momentary twist override that requires a 90-degree twist for operation. Constructed using Sun's floating style design, this cartridge minimizes internal part binding due to installation torque or cavity-cartridge machining variations. It fits into T13A cavities, belongs to Series 1, and has a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). The valve's hex size is .78 inches (22.2 mm), with an installation torque requirement of 30-35 lbf-ft (41-47 Nm). The model weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with the coil attached and utilizes Viton seal kits for durability under high-pressure conditions.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
