The Sun Hydraulics FPCHDAN812 (FPCHDAN812) is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve is spring-biased open, and energizing the coil generates a closing force on the spool proportional to the command current. This force is countered by the spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice whose effective size adjusts with the current. The valve features significant self-compensation in one direction and provides proportional flow control in the opposite direction with an external compensator. It allows full reverse flow without command under all conditions. Available configurations include normally open or closed setups with three capacity ranges, capable of operating at pressures up to 5000 psi. The valve demonstrates low leakage levels when closed and features interchangeable coils compatible with Sun's solenoid-operated valves, allowing flexible installation. Multiple manual override options are available, including temporary detent mechanisms and momentary-twist overrides for manual operation. The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. Optimal performance is achieved using an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. The FPCHDAN812 fits into a T-13A cavity, supports a flow capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min), and has specific installation requirements including a torque range of 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm). Seal kits are available in Viton material for both cartridge and coil components to ensure durability and reliability in various applications.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
