The Sun Hydraulics FPCHEAN2D24A (Material Number: FPCHEAN2D24A) is a normally open, electroproportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve is spring-biased to remain open and closes proportionally to the command current applied, countered by spring and flow forces to create a metering orifice. It features self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction, allowing for proportional flow control in the reverse direction with an external compensator. The valve can operate under pressures up to 5000 psi and boasts low leakage levels when closed. It offers versatility with interchangeable coils compatible with other solenoid-operated valves from Sun Hydraulics, and these coils can be mounted in either direction on the tube. Manual override options are available, including momentary-twist and detent mechanisms, designed for temporary actuation with a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an amplifier with adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. The floating style construction minimizes internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The valve has a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min) and requires a manual override force of 5 lbs/1000 psi at Port 1. Its compact design includes a solenoid tube diameter of .75 inches (19 mm), valve hex size of .78 inches (22.2 mm), and installation torque requirement between 30-35 lbf-ft (41-47 Nm). The model weighs 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with the coil included, and Viton seal kits are available for both cartridge and coil maintenance needs.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
