The Sun Hydraulics FPCHECN4A12A (FPCHECN4A12A) is a normally open, electroproportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve utilizes a spring-biased mechanism that remains open until the coil is energized, at which point a closing force proportional to the command current is applied to the spool. The balance between this force, spring tension, and flow forces creates a metering orifice whose size adjusts according to the current input. Notably, this valve offers significant self-compensation in one direction (1 to 2) and can provide proportional flow control in the opposite direction (2 to 1) when paired with an external compensator. It allows full reverse flow from 2 to 1 without a compensator under all conditions. Available configurations include normally open or closed settings with three capacity ranges, making it versatile for various applications. The valve operates efficiently at pressures up to 5000 psi and maintains low leakage levels when closed. Its coils are interchangeable with other Sun solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted in either direction on the tube. For enhanced performance, using an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither (between 100-250 Hz) is recommended. Manual override options are available, including temporary actuation mechanisms with mechanical life expectancies of about 7,000 cycles. The E option allows momentary manual operation by twisting the override clockwise by 90 degrees. Constructed using Sun's floating style design, this cartridge minimizes internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations of cavity-cartridge interfaces. Additional specifications include a cavity size of T-13A, series number 1, and a capacity of up to 7 gpm (28 L/min), ensuring reliable performance across various hydraulic applications.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
