The Sun Hydraulics FPCHECN712N (Material Number: FPCHECN712N) is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control. This valve utilizes a spring-biased open mechanism where energizing the coil produces a closing force on the spool proportional to the command current. This action is balanced by the spring and flow forces, resulting in a metering orifice with an effective size proportional to the current. It offers self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and requires an external compensator for proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction, though full reverse flow from 2 to 1 is achievable without command under all conditions. Available configurations include normally open or closed settings with three capacity ranges, capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi while maintaining low leakage levels when closed. The valve's interchangeable coils can be mounted in either direction on the tube, compatible with Sun's other solenoid-operated valves. Several manual override options are available, including a momentary-twist option that allows shifting by twisting clockwise by 90 degrees. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. The manual override assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or cavity-cartridge machining variations. The valve fits into a T-13A cavity and belongs to Series 1 with a capacity of up to 7 gpm (28 L/min). It features maximum leakage at specified conditions of up to 6 inches per minute at 3000 psi (100 cc/min at 210 bar). Installation torque ranges from 30-35 lbf-ft (41-47 Nm), and it weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with coil included. Seal kits are available in Viton material for both cartridge and coil components.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
