The Sun Hydraulics FPCHLAN214 (FPCHLAN214) is a normally open, electroproportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve operates by using a spring-biased mechanism that keeps it open under normal conditions. When the coil is energized, it generates a closing force on the spool proportional to the command current, creating a metering orifice whose size is directly related to the current applied. The FPCHLAN214 offers significant self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and enables proportional flow control from 2 to 1 with an external compensator. It supports full reverse flow from 2 to 1 without command input under all conditions. This versatile valve is available in either normally open or normally closed configurations and offers three different capacity ranges, capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi while maintaining low leakage levels when closed. The design allows for interchangeable coils with other Sun solenoid-operated valves, which can be mounted in either direction on the tube. For optimal performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz is recommended. The FPCHLAN214 also features various manual override options, including a momentary-twist override that enables temporary actuation by twisting the manual override clockwise by 90 degrees. Its construction incorporates Sun's floating style design to minimize internal binding due to excessive torque or machining variations. Key specifications include a cavity size of T-13A, series number 1, capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min), and a maximum leakage rate of 6 in\u00b3/min at 3000 psi (100 cc/min at 210 bar). The valve's hex size measures .78 inches (22.2 mm), with an installation torque requirement of 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm).

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
