The Sun Hydraulics FPCHLAV (FPCHLAV) is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed to provide precise flow control in hydraulic systems. It operates by utilizing a spring-biased open mechanism where energizing the coil generates a closing force on the spool proportional to the command current. This force is countered by the spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current applied. The valve features significant self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and allows for proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction when used with an external compensator. Notably, it supports full reverse flow in the 2 to 1 direction without command under all conditions without requiring a compensator. The FPCHLAV is available in both normally open and normally closed configurations and offers three different capacity ranges, making it versatile for various applications. It can handle pressures up to 5000 psi while maintaining low leakage levels when closed. The valve's coils are interchangeable with other Sun solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on either side of the tube for flexible installation options. For optimal performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither (100-250 Hz) is recommended. The valve also includes several manual override options, such as no manual override or momentary-twist override option E, which allows shifting by twisting clockwise by 90 degrees. Its floating style construction minimizes internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. Additional specifications include a T13A cavity, series 1 designation, a capacity of up to 7 gpm (28 L/min), and a maximum leakage rate of 6 cubic inches per minute at 3000 psi (100 cc/min at 210 bar). The valve's hex size measures .78 inches (22.2 mm), with an installation torque requirement of 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm). The model weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with coil included, and Viton seal kits are available for both cartridge and coil components.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.

  • Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
  • Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
  • Low leakage levels in the closed position.
  • Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
  • For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
