The Sun Hydraulics FPCHLBN (FPCHLBN) is a normally open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed to provide precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve is spring-biased open, and energizing the coil generates a closing force on the spool that is proportional to the command current. This force is balanced by the spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice whose effective size adjusts with the current. The FPCHLBN valve offers significant self-compensation in the 1 to 2 flow direction and allows for proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction when paired with an external compensator. It supports full reverse flow from 2 to 1 without command under any conditions. This model can be configured as normally open or closed and comes in three different capacity ranges, capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi while maintaining low leakage levels when closed. The interchangeable coils can be mounted in either direction on the solenoid tube, offering flexibility with Sun’s other solenoid-operated valves. Various manual override options are available, including configurations without manual override for customization based on application needs. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. Manual override options such as momentary-twist allow temporary actuation by twisting clockwise 90 degrees. The valve incorporates Sun’s floating style construction to reduce internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The FPCHLBN fits into cavity T-13A, Series 1, with a capacity of up to 7 gpm (28 L/min). It features a maximum valve leakage of 6 in³/min at 3000 psi (100 cc/min at 210 bar), requiring a manual override force of approximately 5 lbs/1000 psi at Port 1. The solenoid tube diameter measures .75 inches (19 mm), while installation torque ranges from 30-35 lbf·ft (41-47 Nm). The model weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with coil included and uses Viton seal kits for both cartridge and coil sealing needs.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
