The Sun Hydraulics FPCHLCN214 (FPCHLCN214) is a normally open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve features a spring-biased open position and utilizes an electromagnetic coil to apply a closing force on the spool, which is proportional to the command current. This dynamic allows for a metering orifice whose effective size adjusts with the current, providing self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction when used with an external compensator. It supports full reverse flow from 2 to 1 without command under all conditions. Available configurations include normally open or closed setups with three capacity ranges. The valve operates efficiently at pressures up to 5000 psi and maintains low leakage levels when closed. The interchangeable coils can be mounted in either direction on the solenoid tube, compatible with Sun's other solenoid-operated valves. For enhanced performance, it is recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100–250 Hz. The FPCHLCN214 incorporates Sun’s floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. Manual override options are available, including temporary actuation mechanisms like detent controls (D or L) and momentary-twist override (E), which allows manual shifting by twisting clockwise 90 degrees. The valve fits into cavity T-13A, has a series designation of 1, and offers a capacity of up to 7 gpm (28 L/min). It features a manual override stroke of .10 inches (2.5 mm), requires an installation torque of 30–35 lbf ft (41–47 Nm), and weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with the coil installed. Seal kits are available in Viton material for both cartridge and coil components.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.

• Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
• Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
• Low leakage levels in the closed position.
• Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
• This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
• For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
• On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
• The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
• Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
