The Sun Hydraulics FPCHLCN214N (FPCHLCN214N) is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve operates by balancing the closing force generated by energizing the coil against a spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice proportional to the command current. It offers significant self-compensation in one direction and proportional flow control in the opposite direction with an external compensator. The valve supports full reverse flow without command under all conditions when no compensator is used. Available in both normally open and closed configurations, it features three capacity ranges and can handle pressures up to 5000 psi. Notably, it maintains low leakage levels when closed. The FPCHLCN214N's solenoid coils are interchangeable with other Sun solenoid-operated valves, allowing for flexible installation on the tube in either direction. The cartridge includes several manual override options, including no override, with some models offering a temporary detent mechanism for manual actuation. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. Constructed with Sun's floating style design, this valve minimizes internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. It fits into a T-13A cavity and belongs to Series 1, with a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). The maximum valve leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is specified as 6 in\u00b3/min at 3000 psi (100 cc/min at 210 bar). Manual override requires a force of 5 lbs/1000 psi at Port 1 (33 N/100 bar), with an override stroke of .10 inches (2.5 mm). The solenoid tube diameter measures .75 inches (19 mm), while the valve hex size is .78 inches (22.2 mm), requiring an installation torque of 30-35 lbf-ft (41-47 Nm). The model weighs approximately 1.10 lbs (0.50 kg) including the coil and utilizes Viton seal kits for both cartridge and coil components.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
