The Sun Hydraulics FPCHLCN712N (FPCHLCN712N) is a sophisticated normally-open, electroproportional throttle valve designed for precise hydraulic flow control. This valve operates by balancing the closing force generated by an energized coil against spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice whose size is proportional to the command current. It offers significant self-compensation in one direction and requires an external compensator for proportional flow control in the reverse direction. Notably, it allows full reverse flow without a command under all conditions when moving from port 2 to port 1. The FPCHLCN712N can function in either normally open or closed configurations and is available with three different capacity ranges, making it versatile for varied applications. It can handle pressures up to 5000 psi with minimal leakage in the closed position. The valve's design includes interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun solenoid-operated valves, which can be mounted bidirectionally on the tube. For manual operation, it offers several override options, including a momentary-twist mechanism that shifts the valve with a simple 90-degree turn of the override. With its floating style construction, this cartridge minimizes internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The FPCHLCN712N fits into cavity T-13A and belongs to Series 1 with a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). Optimal performance requires using an amplifier with adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. The mechanical life expectancy of its manual control assemblies is approximately 7,000 cycles. The model has a hex size of .78 inches (22.2 mm) and weighs around 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with the coil installed.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
