The Sun Hydraulics FPCHMCN824 (FPCHMCN824) is a versatile, normally-open electroproportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. It operates by balancing the closing force generated by energizing the coil against the spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice proportional to the command current. This valve is highly self-compensating in the 1 to 2 direction and offers proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction when paired with an external compensator. Notably, it allows full reverse flow from 2 to 1 without a compensator under all conditions. Available in both normally open and closed configurations, this valve supports three capacity ranges and can handle pressures up to 5000 psi. It demonstrates low leakage levels when closed and features interchangeable coils compatible with Sun's other solenoid-operated valves. The cartridge includes multiple manual override options, such as a momentary-twist override that shifts the valve by twisting clockwise 90 degrees. For optimal performance, use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. The manual control assemblies are designed for temporary actuation with a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles. The FPCHMCN824 incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. This valve fits into cavity T13A, belongs to series 1, and has a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). Maximum valve leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is rated at 6 in/min (3000 psi). It requires a manual override force of approximately 5 lbs/1000 psi at Port 1 with a stroke of .10 inches (2.5 mm). The solenoid tube diameter is .75 inches (19 mm), while the valve hex size measures .78 inches (22.2 mm), requiring an installation torque of 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm). Its model weight with coil is approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg), and Viton seal kits are available for both cartridge and coil applications.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
