The Sun Hydraulics FPCHMCV214 (Material Number: FPCHMCV214) is a versatile electroproportional throttle valve designed to provide precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This normally-open valve features a spring-biased open configuration, which allows it to generate a closing force on the spool proportional to the command current when energized. The balance of forces between the spring and flow forces creates a metering orifice whose effective size is adjustable according to the current input. The FPCHMCV214 offers self-compensation from port 1 to 2 and can achieve proportional flow control from port 2 to 1 when used with an external compensator, although full reverse flow from port 2 to 1 is possible without it. Available in both normally open and closed configurations, this valve can handle pressures up to 5000 psi while maintaining low leakage levels in its closed position. It is compatible with interchangeable coils from Sun's range of solenoid-operated valves, offering flexibility in installation direction on the tube. For manual operation, several override options are available, including a momentary-twist override that allows temporary actuation by twisting the manual override clockwise by 90 degrees. The FPCHMCV214 incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing potential internal binding due to excessive torque or cavity-cartridge machining variations. It fits into T-13A cavities and belongs to Series 1 with a capacity of up to 7 gpm (28 L/min). Optimal performance requires an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. This model weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with its coil and comes with Viton seal kits for both cartridge and coil assemblies for enhanced durability and performance in demanding hydraulic applications.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
