The Sun Hydraulics FPCHMCV214N (FPCHMCV214N) is a normally open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve operates with a spring-biased open mechanism, where energizing the coil generates a closing force on the spool proportional to the command current. This force is counteracted by the spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. Notably, it offers significant self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and provides proportional flow control from 2 to 1 with an external compensator. The valve also allows full reverse flow from 2 to 1 without a command under various conditions. This model is available in normally open or closed configurations and supports three different capacity ranges, making it versatile for various applications. It can handle pressures up to 5000 psi and maintains low leakage levels when closed. The coils are interchangeable with other Sun solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on either side of the tube. The FPCHMCV214N features several manual override options, including no manual override, enhancing its adaptability in different operational scenarios. For optimal performance, using an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither\u2014ranging between 100-250 Hz\u2014is recommended. Models equipped with D or L controls have a detent mechanism for temporary actuation, with a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles. Additionally, its momentary-twist override option allows easy manual operation by twisting clockwise by 90 degrees. Constructed using Sun's floating style design, this cartridge minimizes internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavities or cartridges. The valve fits into a T-13A cavity and has a capacity of up to 7 gpm (28 L/min). It features Viton seals for reliability under high-pressure conditions and weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) when equipped with a coil.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
