The Sun Hydraulics FPCHTAN (FPCHTAN) is a normally open, electroproportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve is spring-biased to remain open, and its spool position is adjusted by energizing the coil, which applies a closing force proportional to the command current. This force interacts with the spring and flow forces to create a metering orifice that adjusts in size based on the current level. The valve provides self-compensation for flow direction from port 1 to port 2 and offers proportional flow control from port 2 to port 1 when used with an external compensator. It allows full reverse flow without command in the opposite direction under all conditions. Available in both normally open and normally closed configurations, the FPCHTAN supports three different capacity ranges and operates efficiently at pressures up to 5000 psi. It features low leakage levels when closed and interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun solenoid-operated valves. The cartridge offers various manual override options, including no override, with models equipped with D or L controls featuring a detent mechanism intended for temporary actuation. Optimal performance of this valve is achieved using an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. The design incorporates Sun\u2019s floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding due to excessive torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min) and maximum leakage at specified conditions being minimal, this valve is suitable for applications requiring precise hydraulic control within its specifications. The FPCHTAN also has specific installation requirements such as torque specifications and manual override force parameters, ensuring reliable operation within hydraulic systems.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.

  • Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
  • Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
  • Low leakage levels in the closed position.
  • Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
  • For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
