The Sun Hydraulics FPCHTAV912N (FPCHTAV912N) is a normally-open, electroproportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve operates by balancing an energizing coil's closing force against spring and flow forces to create a metering orifice, the size of which is proportional to the command current. It offers significant self-compensation in one direction and can provide proportional flow control in the opposite direction with an external compensator. The valve is capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi and features low leakage levels when closed. It is available in both normally open and closed configurations with three capacity ranges. This model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. It also includes various manual override options, such as a momentary-twist option that allows manual shifting of the valve by twisting the override 90 degrees clockwise. The manual controls have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. The FPCHTAV912N fits into a T-13A cavity and has a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). Its solenoid tube diameter measures .75 inches (19 mm), and it requires an installation torque between 30 - 35 lbf ft (41 - 47 Nm). This model weighs approximately 1.10 lbs (0.50 kg) with the coil included, and it comes with Viton seal kits for both cartridge and coil applications.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
