The Sun Hydraulics FPCHTAV924 (Material Number: FPCHTAV924) is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve operates by utilizing an electrical coil to generate a closing force on the spool, which is proportional to the command current. This force is counteracted by spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice that adjusts its size based on the current. The FPCHTAV924 provides significant self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and allows for proportional flow control from 2 to 1 with an external compensator, although full reverse flow without command is possible under all conditions. Available in both normally open and closed configurations with three capacity ranges, it can handle pressures up to 5000 psi while maintaining low leakage levels when closed. The valve's design includes interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted bidirectionally on the tube. It offers several manual override options, including models with temporary actuation detents and a momentary-twist option for manual operation. The FPCHTAV924 features Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. For optimal performance, it should be used with an amplifier featuring current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. Additional specifications include a T13A cavity, Series 1 designation, and a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). Maximum valve leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is rated at 6 in\u00b3/min at 3000 psi (100 cc/min at 210 bar). The manual override requires a force of approximately 5 lbs/1000 psi (33 N/100 bar) at Port 1 with a stroke of .10 inches (2.5 mm). The solenoid tube diameter measures .75 inches (19 mm), and the valve hex size is .78 inches (22.2 mm), requiring an installation torque of 30-35 lbf-ft (41-47 Nm). The model weighs approximately 1.10 lbs (0.50 kg) with its coil installed.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.

  • Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
  • Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
  • Low leakage levels in the closed position.
  • Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
  • For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
