The Sun Hydraulics FPCHXBN724 (FPCHXBN724) is a normally-open, electroproportional throttle valve that is spring-biased open. This valve is designed to provide precise flow control by generating a closing force on the spool proportional to the command current, countered by the spring and flow forces. This creates a metering orifice whose effective size adjusts according to the current input. Notably, the valve offers significant self-compensation in one direction and allows for proportional flow control in the opposite direction with an external compensator. It can operate with pressures up to 5000 psi and features low leakage levels when closed. The FPCHXBN724 is compatible with interchangeable coils from Sun's solenoid-operated valves, which can be mounted in either direction on the tube. It includes various manual override options and requires an amplifier with adjustable dither for optimal performance. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min), this cartridge valve fits into cavity T-13A and weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with the coil installed. It requires specific installation torque between 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm) and has a manual override force requirement of 5 lbs/1000 psi at Port 1. Additionally, it features a solenoid tube diameter of 0.75 in (19 mm) and a hex size of 7/8 in (22.2 mm). The valve supports various seal kits, including Viton options for both cartridge and coil components, ensuring compatibility with different hydraulic systems while maintaining reliability under demanding conditions.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
