The Sun Hydraulics FREACAN (Material Number: FREACAN) is a bypass-restrictive, fixed-orifice, priority flow control valve designed to manage hydraulic flow efficiently. This valve takes input flow at port 1 and prioritizes it to satisfy the flow requirements at port 3. Should the input exceed these requirements, the excess is bypassed through port 2, which can be utilized in secondary circuits. The valve requires a specified flow rating from the customer and is factory-set within a 10% margin of the requested setting. It features a tuneable adjustment control option allowing up to a 22% variation from the nominal factory preset flow, adjustable via three turns of an internal hex screw. The maximum pressure at port 3 should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar), while both priority and bypass flows are operable up to system operating pressure. Priority flow remains stable despite variations in input flow; however, bypass flow activates only once priority needs are met. Notably, pressure at port 2 may surpass that at port 3. The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes viscosity-related flow variations and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce risks of internal binding due to installation torque or machining discrepancies. The FREACAN fits into cavity T-17A with a series capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and supports a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It accommodates an input flow of up to 60 gpm (240 L/min). Installation requires specific torques for both the valve body and locknut, ensuring secure placement without compromising functionality. The model weighs approximately 1.25 lb (0.60 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for cartridge maintenance.

Bypass/restrictive, fixed-orifice, priority flow controls take an input flow at port 1 and use it to satisfy the priority flow at port 3. If the input flow exceeds the priority flow requirement, the excess is bypassed out port 2. The bypass flow may be used in a secondary circuit.
- Customer must specify a flow rating. Factory set flow ratings are within +/- 10% of the requested setting.
- Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
- A tuneable adjustment control option provides up to +/- 22% variation from the nominal factory pre-set flow. Adjustment is done with +/- 3 turns of the adjust screw. Screw in (CW) to increase flow.
- Both priority and bypass flow are usable up to the system operating pressure.
- Priority remains relatively constant regardless of variation in input flow.
- Bypass flow is not available until priority flow requirements are satisfied.
- Pressure at the bypass port (port 2) may exceed pressure at the priority port (port 3).
- The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
