The Sun Hydraulics FREALAV (Material Number: FREALAV) is a bypass-restrictive, fixed-orifice priority flow control valve designed to manage hydraulic flow in complex systems. This valve directs input flow from port 1 to meet the priority flow requirements at port 3, with any excess being diverted through port 2 for possible use in secondary circuits. Users can specify a factory-set flow rating, which is accurate within 10% of the requested setting. The valve also features a tunable adjustment control that allows up to a 22% variation from the nominal preset flow, adjusted via three turns of an internal hex screw. The maximum pressure at port 3 should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar), while both priority and bypass flows can handle pressures up to the system's operating limits. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize binding due to installation torque or machining variations. It fits into a T-17A cavity and belongs to Series 3, with a capacity of up to 25 gpm (95 L/min) and a maximum input flow of 60 gpm (240 L/min). The sharp-edged orifice design reduces sensitivity to viscosity changes, ensuring consistent performance. Installation requires specific torques for both the valve and locknut, with hex sizes detailed for precise assembly. This product is particularly useful when multiple hydraulic outputs are needed from a single pump source without compromising on priority functions. However, it is essential that the priority requirements are met before any bypass flow becomes available. The design ensures that pressure at the bypass port can exceed that at the priority port without affecting performance.

Bypass/restrictive, fixed-orifice, priority flow controls take an input flow at port 1 and use it to satisfy the priority flow at port 3. If the input flow exceeds the priority flow requirement, the excess is bypassed out port 2. The bypass flow may be used in a secondary circuit.

  • Customer must specify a flow rating. Factory set flow ratings are within +/- 10% of the requested setting.
  • Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • A tuneable adjustment control option provides up to +/- 22% variation from the nominal factory pre-set flow. Adjustment is done with +/- 3 turns of the adjust screw. Screw in (CW) to increase flow.
  • Both priority and bypass flow are usable up to the system operating pressure.
  • Priority remains relatively constant regardless of variation in input flow.
  • Bypass flow is not available until priority flow requirements are satisfied.
  • Pressure at the bypass port (port 2) may exceed pressure at the priority port (port 3).
  • The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
