The Sun Hydraulics NFDCHAN (NFDCHAN) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable orifice can be set anywhere from completely closed to its maximum diameter, making it ideal for use as either a flow control or shutoff valve. While not pressure compensated, the valve's design allows it to regulate flow proportionally to the square root of the pressure differential across its ports. The NFDCHAN features a balanced adjustment mechanism that ensures easy operation even under high pressures, and its sharp-edged orifice minimizes variations in flow due to changes in fluid viscosity. The valve supports bidirectional flow, with a preferred path from port 1 to port 2 for compatibility with other flow controls. Additionally, there is no leakage when the valve is fully closed. This cartridge-style needle valve fits into a T-5A cavity and has a series 2 capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min), withstanding up to 5000 psi (350 bar) of operating pressure. Its physical dimensions include a hex size of 1-1/8 inches and an installation torque requirement of 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm). The adjustment screw has an internal hex size of 5/32 inches, while the locknut requires a torque range of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Weighing just .60 lb (.30 kg), this model is lightweight yet robust. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are recommended; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids should be avoided as it may damage these seals. Alternatively, Viton seal kits are available for other applications. The Sun Hydraulics NFDCHAN needle valve provides reliable performance and adaptability for various hydraulic applications requiring precise fluid control.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.

  • All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
  • Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
  • A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
  • The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
  • The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
  • There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
