The Sun Hydraulics NFDCLAE (NFDCLAE) is a versatile needle valve designed to provide precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable orifice valve allows for infinite regulation from fully closed to the maximum orifice diameter, making it suitable for applications requiring variable flow rates. It is not pressure compensated and can function effectively as both a flow control and a shutoff valve. The NFDCLAE model is part of the 2-port flow control cartridge series, which are interchangeable in terms of flow path and cavity size within the same frame size, although extension dimensions may vary. This needle valve features a balanced adjustment mechanism that facilitates easy adjustments even under high-pressure conditions, up to a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes variations in flow due to changes in fluid viscosity, ensuring consistent performance. The bidirectional flow path is optimized for interchangeability with other flow controls, with a preferred direction from port 1 to port 2. When fully closed, the valve ensures zero leakage. The NFDCLAE model comes equipped with EPDM seals suitable for systems using phosphate ester fluids but should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as they can damage the seals. It has a cavity size of T-5A Series 2 with a capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and features several adjustment specifications including an internal hex size for the adjustment screw of 5/32 inch (4 mm) and locknut torque settings between 80-90 lbf.in (9-10 Nm). The compact design weighs just .60 lb (.30 kg), making it an efficient component for hydraulic systems requiring reliable flow control solutions.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.

  • All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
  • Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
  • A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
  • The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
  • The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
  • There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
