The Sun Hydraulics NFECHEN (Material Number: NFECHEN) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable orifice allows for fine-tuning from a completely closed state to the maximum orifice diameter, making it ideal for applications requiring both flow regulation and shutoff capabilities. The valve operates without pressure compensation, meaning the flow is regulated by the fixed orifice size relative to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2. Featuring a balanced adjustment mechanism, it provides ease of use even under high pressures, while its sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to changes in fluid viscosity. This bidirectional valve has a preferred flow path from port 1 to port 2, ensuring compatibility with other flow control devices. It guarantees zero leakage when fully shut off and is equipped with EPDM seals suitable for systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals should not be exposed to petroleum-based substances. The cartridge's design allows interchangeability among all 2-port flow control cartridges within the same frame size. Key specifications include a cavity T-16A series with a capacity of up to 30 gpm (120 L/min), maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), and an adjustment range of up to 5.5 counterclockwise turns from fully closed to open. Installation requires a torque of 150-160 lbf ft (203-217 Nm), while adjustments are made using an internal hex screw sized at 5/32 inches (4 mm). The locknut has a hex size of 9/16 inches (15 mm) and requires torque between 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Weighing in at approximately 1.30 lb (0.60 kg), this model ensures robust performance in demanding environments.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.

  • All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
  • Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
  • A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
  • The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
  • The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
  • There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
