The Sun Hydraulics NFECHFN (Material Number: NFECHFN) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable orifice can be fine-tuned from a completely closed position to its maximum orifice diameter, making it an ideal choice for applications requiring exact flow control or as a shutoff valve. It features a balanced adjustment mechanism that ensures easy manipulation even under high pressures, and its sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to changes in fluid viscosity. The NFECHFN model supports bidirectional flow, with the preferred path being from port 1 to port 2 to maintain interchangeability with other flow controls. Importantly, when adjusted to the shutoff position, the valve ensures zero leakage. This model is compatible with systems using phosphate ester fluids when equipped with EPDM seals; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. The valve fits into a Cavity T-16A Series 3 and has a capacity of 30 gpm (120 L/min) with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The adjustment range spans 5.5 turns from fully closed to fully open, offering precise control over fluid flow. Installation requires a valve hex size of 1-1/4 inches and an installation torque between 150-160 lbf ft (203-217 Nm). The internal hex size for the adjustment screw is 5/32 inches, while the locknut hex size is 9/16 inches with a torque requirement of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Weighing in at approximately 1.30 lb (0.60 kg), this needle valve provides robust performance in demanding environments where accurate flow control is critical.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.
- All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
- Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
- A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
- The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
- The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
- There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
