The Sun Hydraulics NFECKFV (NFECKFV) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. As a fully adjustable orifice, it allows for fine-tuned control from a fully closed position to the maximum orifice diameter, making it suitable for applications requiring variable flow rates or complete shutoff capabilities. This model is not pressure compensated, meaning the flow rate is influenced by the pressure differential across its ports. Its design includes a balanced adjustment mechanism that facilitates easy adjustments even under high-pressure conditions. The sharp-edged orifice minimizes flow variations due to changes in fluid viscosity, ensuring consistent performance. The NFECKFV model features bidirectional flow capability, with the preferred path being from port 1 to port 2 for compatibility with other flow control devices. When adjusted to the shutoff position, the valve ensures zero leakage, enhancing system reliability. The cartridge is interchangeable with other 2-port flow control cartridges of similar frame size and cavity specifications, although extension dimensions may differ. This needle valve supports a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and can handle flow capacities up to 30 gpm (120 L/min). It requires an installation torque of 150-160 lbf ft (203-217 Nm) and features an adjustment range of up to 5.5 counterclockwise turns from fully closed to open. The valve's robust construction includes an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm) for adjustment screws and a locknut hex size of 9/16 inches (15 mm). It weighs approximately 1.30 lb (0.60 kg) and comes with Viton seals as standard, while EPDM seals are available for systems using phosphate ester fluids.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.

  • All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
  • Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
  • A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
  • The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
  • The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
  • There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
