The Sun Hydraulics NFEDLHV (Material Number: NFEDLHV) is a high-performance needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. This valve is fully adjustable, allowing users to control the flow from fully closed to the maximum orifice diameter. It operates as both a flow control and a shutoff valve, although it lacks pressure compensation. Its design ensures that it can be interchanged with other 2-port flow control cartridges of the same frame size, providing flexibility in various applications. The NFEDLHV features a balanced adjustment mechanism that facilitates easy adjustments even under high pressure conditions. Its sharp-edged orifice minimizes variations in flow due to changes in fluid viscosity, ensuring consistent performance. The valve supports bidirectional flow with a preferred path from port 1 to port 2, enhancing its interchangeability with other controls. The cartridge is designed with EPDM seals for compatibility with systems using phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. It fits into the Cavity T-16A and offers a series capacity of up to 90 gpm (340 L/min), supporting a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The adjustment mechanism allows for 5.5 counterclockwise turns from fully closed to fully open, and the valve's hex size is 1-1/4 inches (31.8 mm). Installation requires a torque of 150-160 lbf ft (203-217 Nm), while the adjustment screw has an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm). The locknut hex size is 9/16 inches (15 mm) and should be torqued between 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Weighing approximately 1.30 lb (0.60 kg), this model provides robust performance for demanding hydraulic applications.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.
- All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
- Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
- A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
- The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
- The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
- There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
