The Sun Hydraulics NFEDYHN (NFEDYHN) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable orifice valve allows for infinite adjustment from fully closed to its maximum orifice diameter, making it suitable for applications requiring meticulous flow control or shutoff capabilities. The NFEDYHN model features a balanced adjustment mechanism, ensuring ease of use even under high-pressure conditions, with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). Its sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes, providing consistent performance across different fluid conditions. This 2-port flow control cartridge is interchangeable with others of the same frame size, maintaining the same flow path and cavity dimensions while offering bidirectional flow capabilities. The preferred flow path is from port 1 to port 2, allowing for compatibility with other flow control devices. Notably, there is no leakage when the valve is fully closed. The valve's construction includes features such as EPDM seals compatible with phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals are not suitable for petroleum-based substances. The NFEDYHN model has a capacity of 90 gpm (340 L/min) and requires specific installation torques: valve installation torque ranges from 150 to 160 lbf ft (203 to 217 Nm), and locknut torque ranges from 80 to 90 lbf in (9 to 10 Nm). The adjustment screw uses an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), while the locknut requires a hex size of 9/16 inches (15 mm). With a weight of approximately 1.30 lb (0.60 kg), this needle valve is suitable for various hydraulic systems needing precise and reliable flow control solutions.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.

  • All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
  • Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
  • A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
  • The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
  • The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
  • There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
