The Sun Hydraulics NFFCHGN (NFFCHGN) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable orifice allows for infinite control from fully closed to the maximum orifice diameter, making it suitable for applications requiring precise flow control or shutoff capabilities. The valve is not pressure-compensated, meaning the flow rate through the valve is dependent on the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2, following a square root relationship. Its design ensures bidirectional flow, with a preferred path from port 1 to 2 to maintain interchangeability with other flow controls. Equipped with a balanced adjustment mechanism, the NFFCHGN allows for easy adjustments even under high-pressure conditions up to a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes variations in flow due to viscosity changes, ensuring consistent performance. Constructed for use in systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids, it features EPDM seals that are incompatible with petroleum-based fluids. Physically and functionally interchangeable with other 2-port flow control cartridges of the same frame size, this needle valve offers flexibility in various system configurations. It fits in cavity T-18A and has a capacity of 60 gpm (240 L/min) with an installation torque requirement of 350-375 lbf ft (474-508 Nm). The adjustment screw has an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), while the locknut requires a torque of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Weighing approximately 3 pounds (1.35 kg), this model provides reliable performance without leakage when closed, making it an essential component for hydraulic systems demanding precise fluid control.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.

  • All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
  • Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
  • A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
  • The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
  • The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
  • There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
