The Sun Hydraulics PBJBLAV (PBJBLAV) is a pilot-operated pressure reducing valve designed to manage high primary pressure at the inlet port 2 and deliver a consistent reduced pressure at port 1. This makes it ideal for hydraulic circuits requiring multiple pressure levels while utilizing a single pump. The valve is physically interchangeable with other three-port pressure reducing and reducing-relieving cartridges, sharing the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. It is recommended to use a full capacity return line port 3 with reducing-relieving cartridges to ensure optimal performance. If reverse free flow from port 1 to port 2 is necessary, consider incorporating a separate check valve in the circuit. The main stage orifice of the PBJBLAV is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability under various conditions. The valve exhibits exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics, offering stability and low hysteresis. However, it is not designed for fast-acting applications; direct-acting valves are suggested if superior dynamic response is required. The PBJBLAV can handle maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), with specific ranges tested for different maximum differential pressures: Ranges D, E, N, and Q accommodate up to 2000 psi (140 bar), while Ranges A, B, and H can handle up to 3000 psi (210 bar), and Ranges C and W are suitable for inlet pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize potential internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. It features EPDM seals compatible with phosphate ester fluids but not with petroleum-based substances.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, allowing circuits with multiple pressure requirements to be operated using a single pump.

  • All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • If pilot flow consumption is critical, consider using direct acting reducing/relieving valves.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure.
