The Sun Hydraulics PBJBNWV (PBJBNWV) is a pilot-operated, pressure-reducing valve designed to manage high primary pressures and maintain a consistent reduced pressure in hydraulic systems. This valve is particularly useful in applications requiring multiple pressure levels from a single pump, as it can effectively regulate the flow between the inlet port 2 and outlet port 1. The PBJBNWV model is part of Sun's interchangeable three-port pressure-reducing and reducing-relieving cartridges, which share the same flow path and cavity for similar frame sizes. It features a robust main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability. This valve can handle maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar), with specific adjustment ranges tested at varying maximum differentials between inlet and reduced pressures. For instance, ranges A, B, and H are suitable for up to 3000 psi (210 bar), while ranges C and W can handle up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The PBJBNWV model is engineered with Sun's floating style construction to minimize the risk of internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. For circuits requiring reverse free flow from port 1 to port 2, adding an external check valve is recommended. Additionally, if pilot flow consumption is critical or superior dynamic response is needed, direct-acting reducing-relieving valves may be considered as an alternative. The valve incorporates EPDM seals suitable for phosphate ester fluids but should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids. With its stable performance characteristics and low hysteresis, this pilot-operated valve offers reliable pressure regulation across various hydraulic applications.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, allowing circuits with multiple pressure requirements to be operated using a single pump.

  • All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • If pilot flow consumption is critical, consider using direct acting reducing/relieving valves.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
  • Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
  • Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar).
  • Pilot operated reducing, reducing/relieving valves by nature are not fast acting valves. For superior dynamic response, consider direct acting valves.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
