The Sun Hydraulics PBJBWAN (PBJBWAN) is a pilot-operated, pressure-reducing valve designed to manage high primary pressures at the inlet port 2 by reducing them to a constant, lower pressure at port 1. This feature allows for seamless operation of circuits with varying pressure needs using a single pump system. The valve is part of a series that includes three-port pressure reducing and reducing-relieving cartridges, all physically interchangeable for a given frame size. It is recommended to utilize a full capacity return line port 3 when considering mounting configurations with reducing-relieving cartridges. In scenarios requiring reverse free flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2, the addition of a separate check valve is advisable as the main spool may close during such operations. The main stage orifice benefits from protection by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability. The PBJBWAN model can handle maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), with specific adjustment ranges tested for maximum differentials\u20142000 psi (140 bar) for ranges D, E, N, and Q; and up to 5000 psi (350 bar) for ranges C and W. This valve exhibits exceptionally stable pressure-flow characteristics with low hysteresis due to its pilot-operated nature; however, it is not characterized as fast-acting compared to direct-acting valves. For applications where pilot flow consumption is critical or superior dynamic response is required, direct-acting valves are recommended. This model incorporates Sun's floating style construction which helps minimize internal parts binding that could result from excessive installation torque or cavity-cartridge machining variations. It also features EPDM seals suitable for use with phosphate ester fluids but should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids which could damage the seals. The cartridge's design facilitates easy interchangeability and robust performance in demanding hydraulic systems.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, allowing circuits with multiple pressure requirements to be operated using a single pump.

  • All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • If pilot flow consumption is critical, consider using direct acting reducing/relieving valves.
