The Sun Hydraulics PBJBYBV (PBJBYBV) is a pilot-operated pressure reducing valve designed to maintain a consistent reduced pressure at port 1, even when the inlet port 2 experiences high primary pressure. This valve is particularly useful in hydraulic circuits with varying pressure requirements, as it allows for operation using a single pump. The PBJBYBV model is part of Sun's three-port pressure reducing and reducing-relieving cartridges, which are interchangeable based on frame size and flow path. This valve features a full capacity return line port 3, which is recommended for use with reducing-relieving configurations to prevent the main spool from closing during reverse flow from port 1 to port 2. For systems requiring reverse free flow, it is advisable to incorporate an additional check valve. The PBJBYBV model includes a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and offers stable performance with low hysteresis due to its exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics. It operates within specific maximum inlet pressures depending on the adjustment range: Ranges D, E, N, and Q support up to 2000 psi (140 bar) differential pressure; A, B, and H accommodate up to 3000 psi (210 bar); while C and W handle up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The valve setting at port 3 directly adds to the overall pressure setting at a ratio of 1:1 but should not exceed 5000 psi. Pilot-operated, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, allowing circuits with multiple pressure requirements to be operated using a single pump.

  • All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • If pilot flow consumption is critical, consider using direct acting reducing/relieving valves.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure.
