The Sun Hydraulics PBJBYJV (PBJBYJV) is a pilot-operated, pressure-reducing valve designed to lower a high primary pressure at the inlet port to a consistent reduced pressure at the output port. This feature allows the operation of circuits with varying pressure requirements using a single pump. The valve is part of a series where all three-port pressure-reducing and reducing-relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable, sharing the same flow path and cavity for similar frame sizes. It is recommended that when considering mounting configurations, a full-capacity return line port be utilized with reducing-relieving cartridges to ensure optimal performance. The valve allows for full reverse flow from the reduced pressure port to the inlet port, but this may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is necessary in your circuit, incorporating an additional check valve is advisable. Pilot flow consumption can be critical; therefore, direct-acting reducing-relieving valves might be considered for applications where this is a concern. The Sun Hydraulics PBJBYJV features an orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and exhibits exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics with low hysteresis, ensuring stability. The maximum recommended inlet pressure varies by adjustment range: Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with up to 2000 psi differential; Ranges A, B, and H allow up to 3000 psi; while Ranges C and W support up to 5000 psi. This model incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes potential internal binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. Additionally, it includes EPDM seals suitable for systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids but should not be exposed to petroleum-based substances as they could damage the seals. The PBJBYJV also features easy-to-adjust settings with specific torque requirements for its installation components.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, allowing circuits with multiple pressure requirements to be operated using a single pump.

  • All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
