The Sun Hydraulics PBJFKDN (PBJFKDN) is a pilot-operated pressure reducing valve designed to manage high primary pressure at the inlet port 2, reducing it to a constant lower pressure at port 1. This feature allows for the operation of circuits with varying pressure requirements using a single pump. The valve\u2019s main stage orifice is drilled into the piston, enhancing durability in physically demanding applications. Cartridges with EPDM seals are suitable for systems using phosphate ester fluids but are not compatible with petroleum-based fluids. Reverse flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2 can close the main spool, so a separate check valve might be needed if reverse free flow is required. For applications where pilot flow consumption is critical, direct-acting reducing-relieving valves are recommended. The maximum inlet pressure varies by adjustment range: ranges D, E, N, and Q accommodate up to 2000 psi (140 bar), ranges A, B, and H up to 3000 psi (210 bar), and ranges C and W up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The PBJFKDN valve exhibits stable performance with low hysteresis and exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics. Pressure at port 3 adds directly to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar). While these valves are not fast-acting by nature, they are interchangeable within their frame size for three-port configurations. The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. It features a capacity of 80 gpm (320 L/min) and requires an installation torque of 350\u2013375 lbf ft (474\u2013508 Nm).

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, allowing circuits with multiple pressure requirements to be operated using a single pump.

  • These valves have the main stage orifice drilled into the piston rather than a staked-in orifice. This allows the valve to survive physically demanding applications.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
