The Sun Hydraulics PBJFLQV (PBJFLQV) is a pilot-operated, pressure-reducing valve designed to manage circuits with varying pressure needs using a single pump. It reduces high primary pressure at inlet port 2 to a consistent lower pressure at port 1. This model features a main stage orifice drilled into the piston, enhancing its durability for demanding applications. The valve is equipped with EPDM seals, suitable for systems using phosphate ester fluids, and should not be exposed to petroleum-based substances. For applications requiring reverse free flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2, it's advisable to incorporate an additional check valve in the circuit. The PBJFLQV operates with a maximum recommended inlet pressure determined by its adjustment range: ranges D, E, N, and Q support up to a 2000 psi differential; A, B, and H up to 3000 psi; and C and W up to 5000 psi inlet pressure. This valve exhibits stable performance with low hysteresis and exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics. Pressure at port 3 adds directly to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio but should not exceed 5000 psi. While not inherently fast-acting, it is interchangeable with other three-port reducing valves of the same frame size and benefits from Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The PBJFLQV can handle flow capacities up to 80 gpm (320 L/min) and operates under pressures as high as 5000 psi (350 bar). It requires careful consideration of pilot flow consumption; direct acting reducing-relieving valves may be preferable for critical applications requiring faster response times.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, allowing circuits with multiple pressure requirements to be operated using a single pump.

  • These valves have the main stage orifice drilled into the piston rather than a staked-in orifice. This allows the valve to survive physically demanding applications.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • If pilot flow consumption is critical, consider using direct acting reducing/relieving valves.
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
