The Sun Hydraulics PPDFCAV (Material Number: PPDFCAV) is a pilot-operated, pressure-reducing/relieving valve designed to manage high primary pressures by reducing them to a constant level at the outlet, while also providing a full-flow relief function from the reduced pressure port to the tank port. This valve features a main stage orifice drilled directly into the piston, enhancing its durability in demanding applications. It is crucial to limit the maximum pressure at port 3 to 3000 psi (210 bar) as this pressure is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The recommended maximum inlet pressure varies according to different adjustment ranges, with some ranges tested up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Known for its exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics and low hysteresis, this valve is stable but not fast-acting; for superior dynamic response, direct-acting valves are recommended. The PPDFCAV incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. It has a capacity of 10 gpm (40 L/min) and operates up to a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The control pilot flow ranges between 7-10 in\u00b3/min (0.11-0.16 L/min), with an adjustment range of up to 5.5 turns clockwise for increased settings. Installation requires specific torque settings and hex sizes for both the valve and locknut. This model allows reverse flow from port 1 to port 2 under certain conditions but may require an additional check valve if reverse free flow is needed in the circuit. All three-port cartridges are interchangeable within their frame size, offering flexibility in mounting configurations. The PPDFCAV can be adjusted throughout its full range unless specified otherwise with W or Y controls, which may have preset maximum settings.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3).

  • These valves have the main stage orifice drilled into the piston rather than a staked-in orifice. This allows the valve to survive physically demanding applications.
  • Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • Pilot operated reducing, reducing/relieving valves by nature are not fast acting valves. For superior dynamic response, consider direct acting valves.
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
  • Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • If pilot flow consumption is critical, consider using direct acting reducing/relieving valves.
  • All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
  • W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
