The Sun Hydraulics PPFDKHV (Material Number: PPFDKHV) is a pilot-operated pressure reducing/relieving valve designed to control hydraulic systems by maintaining a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to the tank port 3. This valve features a .020 inch (0.51 mm) diameter bleed orifice that biases the valve into a reducing mode when in a dead-headed condition, ensuring responsiveness to sudden flow demands. The pressure at port 3 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio, with a maximum allowable pressure of 3000 psi (210 bar). Maximum inlet pressures are determined by specific adjustment ranges, with ranges D, E, N, and Q tested up to 2000 psi (140 bar) differential and ranges A, B, and H up to 3000 psi (210 bar), while ranges C and W can handle up to 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure. The valve is known for its exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics, stability, and low hysteresis. It allows full reverse flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2; however, this may cause the main spool to close unless a separate check valve is added for reverse free flow requirements. The cartridges are interchangeable across three-port configurations for ease of integration into various systems. The Sun floating style construction minimizes internal binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 20 gpm (80 L/min), this Series 2 cartridge features factory-established pressure settings in blocked control conditions and operates under pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It requires an installation torque of 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm) and comes with specific hex sizes for adjustments and locknut operations. The model weighs approximately .60 lb (.30 kg) and offers additional options such as Viton seal kits for enhanced performance.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3).

  • This valve incorporates a .020 (0,51 mm) in. diameter bleed orifice between the reduced pressure and tank. This biases the valve into a reducing mode in a dead headed condition which helps the valve respond to a sudden call for flow.
  • Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
  • Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
