The Sun Hydraulics PPFDLEN (Material Number: PPFDLEN) is a pilot-operated, pressure reducing/relieving valve designed to maintain a constant reduced pressure at port 1 while offering a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank port 3. This valve features a .020 inch (0.51 mm) diameter bleed orifice that biases the valve into reducing mode under dead-headed conditions, ensuring prompt response to flow demands. The valve setting is directly influenced by the pressure at port 3 at a 1:1 ratio, with maximum recommended pressure not exceeding 3000 psi (210 bar). The maximum inlet pressure varies based on the adjustment range, with specific ranges tested up to different maximum differentials between inlet and reduced pressures; for instance, ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) differential. This valve is known for its exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics and stability, exhibiting low hysteresis. It allows full reverse flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2; however, this may close the main spool. For circuits requiring reverse free flow, it is advisable to incorporate an additional check valve. The PPFDLEN model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce the risk of internal parts binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The valve fits within the T-2A cavity series with a capacity of up to 20 gpm (80 L/min) and operates effectively under pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Its design includes features for easy adjustment and installation such as a hex size of 1-1/8 inches for the valve body and an internal hex size of 5/32 inches for adjustment screws. The cartridge also includes Viton seals for enhanced durability in varied applications.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3).

  • This valve incorporates a .020 (0,51 mm) in. diameter bleed orifice between the reduced pressure and tank. This biases the valve into a reducing mode in a dead headed condition which helps the valve respond to a sudden call for flow.
  • Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
  • Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
