The Sun Hydraulics PPFDLJN (Material Number: PPFDLJN) is a pilot-operated pressure reducing/relieving valve designed to maintain a constant reduced pressure at port 1 while offering full-flow relief from port 1 to tank port 3. This valve features a .020-inch diameter bleed orifice that biases the valve into reducing mode under dead-headed conditions, enhancing its responsiveness to sudden flow demands. The pressure at port 3 adds directly to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio, with a maximum recommended pressure of 3000 psi. The maximum operating pressure is capped at 5000 psi, with specific adjustment ranges tested against differential pressures between inlet and reduced pressures. Ranges D, E, N, and Q accommodate up to a 2000 psi differential, while ranges A, B, and H handle up to 3000 psi. Ranges C and W are tested with an inlet pressure of up to 5000 psi. Pilot-operated valves like this one exhibit stable performance with low hysteresis and flat pressure-flow characteristics. However, reverse flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2 may close the main spool; thus, including an additional check valve in circuits requiring reverse free flow is advisable. These three-port cartridges are interchangeable within the same frame size and incorporate Sun's floating style construction for minimized binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The PPFDLJN model has a capacity of 20 gpm (80 L/min) and requires specific installation torques for optimal performance. It uses Viton seal kits and features adjustable settings via internal hex screws. The design ensures robust operation in hydraulic systems where precise pressure control is essential.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3).
- This valve incorporates a .020 (0,51 mm) in. diameter bleed orifice between the reduced pressure and tank. This biases the valve into a reducing mode in a dead headed condition which helps the valve respond to a sudden call for flow.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
- Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
- Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
- All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
